Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce noxious matter contained in the exhaust gas and to raise the thermal efficiency of an interal combustion engine, by employing a special member formed with a combustion chamber in a main combustion chamber of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: A special member 17 formed with a combustion chamber 13 is fitted in a substantially circular space 12 in a main combustion chamber 11, in the manner that it is located on the top of a cylinder 5. Here, in order that the heat of the member 17 is not transmitted to the inner wall surface 18 and the bottom surface 9 of the main combustion chamber, a hollow space 20 is formed by the provision of a packing 19. Further, cooling rods 26 are inserted from the outer circumference 14 of the member 17 toward the center of combustion chamber 13 for releasing heat from the portions heated to an extremely high temperature. On the other hand, cooling water is carried from a water chamber 4 to the radiator, and then introduced from a port 27 into a head cooling chamber 28. Thereafter, the cooling water is recirculated to water chamber 4 via ports 29. Since, with such an arrangement, mixture introduced into combustion chamber 13 is heated to a high temperature by the heat of combustion chamber 13, mixture can be ignited and combusted completely even if the mixture is lean.
