Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote combustion of an internal combustion engine under activated hot atmosphere in use of fuel difficult to combust under activated hot atmosphere, by adding a subsidiary fuel easy to combust under activated and heated atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: Combustion under activated hot atmosphere is caused by extending the scavenging passage along high-temperature portion of the exhaust port and thus heating fresh mixture in the scavenging passage. Here, if ordinay fuel is used, fresh mixture is heated and activated at a high-temperature portion in the scavenging passage near the scavenging port of cylinder and the range of activated hot atmosphere combustion is enlarged as compared with that of a combustion engine in which the scavenging passage is provided only in the crank case. Similarly, by positively heating and activating fresh mixture in the scavenging passage, activated hot atmosphere combustion can be accomplished in a stable manner in a wide operational range of engine, if fuel, that has been difficult to combust in a stable manner under activated hot atmosphere through provision of the conventional scavenging passage alone, is used.
