Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the strength of a ceramic shaft and a metal impeller, by inserting the ceramic shaft into a bore formed in the metal impeller, and fixing a metal cap to the top of the ceramic shaft by way of shrink fit in the manner that the metal cap is coupled to the metal impeller.
CONSTITUTION: A ceramic shaft 1 formed integrally with the rotor of a high- temperature power turbine is forced into a bore 9 of a metal impeller 5 by way of interference fit or loose fit. A metal cap 11 or 15 to be coupled with the metal impeller 5 is fixed to the top of the ceramic shaft 1 or 16 by way of shrink fit. Since, with such an arrangement, the ceramic shaft can be coupled to the metal impeller 5 by applying only compressive stress to the ceramic shaft, it is enabled to increase the strength at the portion where the ceramic shaft and the metal impeller are coupled together and hence to improve their durability.
