Abstract

PURPOSE:To accomplish combustion of low NOx by arranging a honeycomb structure in a reducing chamber provided between primary and secondary combustion chambers to promote the reduction of NOx in a combustor employing a double stage combustion. CONSTITUTION:In this combustor, a proper amount of CH4 is fed to a primary combustion chamber 11 through a fuel feed pipe 12 as regulated with a regulation valve 13 while a primary air is fed through a feed pipe 14 as regulated with a regulation valve 15 to a level less than the theoretical amount of air with respect to the amount of CH4. Under such a condition, an uncomplete combustion is performed in an atmosphere of insufficient oxygen in the combustion chamber 11. Then, after a proper amount of NO is injected into the gas combusted through an NO feed pipe 16 and a regulation valve 17, the gas is fed to a reducing chamber 18 having a honeycomb structure 20 surrounded by a heat insulating material 19. There, No under goes reduction. Then, the gas is combusted completely in a secondary combustion chamber 22 with a secondary air being fed through a feed pipe 23. The exhaust gas is discharged from an exhaust pipe 25.
