Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a deterioration in performance of a fuel cell by installing a temperature sensor which detects temperature in combustion, caused by mixing of both gases, in a catalitic combustor through which a fuel gas and air are passed, and by stopping the supply of the fuel gas and air with a signal of the temperature sensor when the temperature of the combustor is increased than a specified value. CONSTITUTION:A fuel and an oxidizing agent gas are passed through a catalytic combustor 13 having a buit-in temperature sensor 11, and supplied to a fuel cell 2. When the fuel gas and air are mixed, the fuel component in the mixed gas is burned and removed with the catalytic combustor 13. An increase in combustion temperature is detected with the temperature sensor 11, and the supply of fuel gas and air is stopped with a signal detected. A deterioration in performance caused by the damage of an electrode of the fuel cell is prevented.
