Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate the rare earth oxide by ore dressing based upon the difference of magnetic susceptibility by flowing a stock material containing plural rare earth oxides onto an inclined high gradient magnetic field generating a pulse magnetic field along with water.
CONSTITUTION: A ferromagnetic substance such as Fe or Mn is preliminarily removed by subjecting an ore containing rare earth elements to the ore dressing separation and, thereafter, the resulting ore is roasted to convert said rare earth elements to oxides. Subsequently, the mixture of said rare earth oxides is flowed onto a high gradient plastic inclined surface 7 along with water from a nozzle 12. In the inclined surface 7, a plurality of fine stainless steel wires 16 is embeded and a pulse signal is sent to an electromagnetic coil 18 of an electromagnet 17 provided to a back surface thereof and, thereby, the pulse magnetic field is formed by said stainless steel wires 16. In this magnetic field, each rare earth oxide is magnetized with different magnetic susceptibility and collected separately into hoppers 8 in accordance with the extent of the magnetic susceptibility.
