Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the disposition of electric circuits easy, widen e visual angle and improve transmittance of light by providing the 1st and 2nd electrodes of respectively a partly looped shape on the inside surfaces of the 1st and 2nd substrates opposed by way of an electro-optic material.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of concentrical semi-annular 1st and 2nd thin film electrodes a1, a2..., c1, c2... of areas S11, S12... and areas S21, S22... made by equally dividing a ring to 1/2 are provided on each of the opposing surface of a transparent front substrate 2 and the opposing surface of a transparent back substrate 3, and electric circuits b1, b2..., d1, d2... are connected to these electrodes. Transparent insulation layers 4, 5 are provided to the region of the substrate 2 opposing to the electrodes c1, c2... of the substrate 3 and the region of the substrate 3 opposing to the electrodes a1, a2... of the substrate 2, respectively, and the counter electrodes aZ, cZ opposing to the electrodes c1, c2... and a1, a2... are provided on these insulation layers 4, 5. The substrate 2 and the substrate 3 are laminated in a manner that the electrode aZ of the former and the electrode cZ of the latter oppose to each other. A thin film 6 of an electrochemical material is made inserted between the substrate 2 and the substrate 3.
