Abstract

PURPOSE: A polyester, which forms spherulites of a specific diameter at the peak of cooling crystallization, when measured with a differential scanning type calorimeter, is used to permit the super high-speed spinning with very little reduction in strength of the yarn produced and no yarn breakage.
CONSTITUTION: When a polyester is melt spun at a taking-up speed of higher than 4,000m/min, the polyester is required to be mainly composed of ehtylene terephthalate as the structural units and to form spherulties of less than 10μ diameter at the peak of cooling crystallization, when a differential scanning type calorimeter is used and preferably the polyester is kept at 305°C for 5min and then cooled at a cooling rate of 9°C/min. The polyester is obtained preferably by using an antimony compound resulting from the reaction of antimony trioxide with terephthalic acid as a polymerization catalyst.
