Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent an ingot from slipping and eliminate the occurrence of cracking between the outside solidified shell and the inside unsolidified shell part by inserting spacers between the bearings of a drive roll and the bearings of a counter roll, and approaching these to each other by large pressing force. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting of twin blooms 9, 10, spacers 17 are inserted between the bearings 14 and 15 of rolls, pressing cylinder devices 16 are operated, and a driving roll 13a is operated, whereby compression casting is accomplished. At this time, the pressing force P of the cylinder devices 16 is set by bulging force B, to accomplish strong pressing. This causes the bulging force B to act evenly, and the twin blooms 9, 10 are compression-cast as desired without slipping. The thickness of the spacers 17 is adjusted according to the thickness change of the twin blooms 9, 10. For a single slab, the spacers 17 are removed, and the rolls are operated under light pressure.
