Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hollow combined pile made of plain concrete and steel pipe, having a high bending strength, by pouring concrete admixed with an expanding additive into a steel pipe having a particular thickness, and forming the steel pipe and expanding plain concrete into a unit by way of centrifugal molding.
CONSTITUTION: Steel pipe 1 has an outer diameter of 2.3W9mm substantially equal to that of conventional piles and has at one end thereof an annular disk 3 of steel plate fixed by way of welding. On the other hand, concrete 2 coupled in a unitary manner to steel pipe 1 by way of centrifugal molding is made of concrete admixed with an additive which is expanded while being cured under a high pressure and at a high temperature. As said additive for expansion, aluminate compound such as, for instance, powdery magnesia calcined at a temperature higher than 1,600°C, dolomite, calcium oxide or calcium aluminate compd. is employed. It has been found that the pile thus produced has an extremely high bending strength and toughness as compared with other piles.
