Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent imperfect combustion and secure safety by a method wherein an oxygen partial-pressure sensor is fitted on the downstream side of the flame of a burner so as to detect the fuel/air mixing ratio. CONSTITUTION:Spreading of flame to a main burner 2 is effected from the flame F1 of a pilot burner 6, thereby forming a flame F2 and conducting normal combustion. In the normal combustion condition, the temperature of an oxygen partial- pressure sensor 8 placed under the fin portion 4 of a heat exchanger 3 rises. Since the electric resistance of the sensor 8 changes with the fuel/air mixing ratio, the fuel/air mixing ratio is determined through the detection of the electric resistance of the sensor 8 by an electronic circuit 9 and when the mixing ratio is improper, a solenoid valve 10 is closed to cut off the supply of fuel for the nozzle 11 of the main burner 2. Accordingly, combustion is stopped when the oxygen amount is smaller than that required for perfect combustion of the flame, thereby securing safety.
