Abstract

CONSTITUTION:2.5-3.5mm. thick glass plate 1 is hung with hangers 2, conveyed in the arrow direction with hanger conveyor 3, heated to a temp. from the strain point of plate 1 to the softening point in heating furnace 4, and rapidly cooled to manufacture tempered glass. In this method lightweight metallic hangers 2 each of <=200g are used to adjust the depth of recesses 11 formed at the plate 1 portions contacting to hangers 2 to 0.05-0.45mm.. It is confirmed experimentally that a strength lowering of tempered glass in the vicinities of the recesses depend on the depth of the recesses, not the diameter.
