Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a stabilizing agent and a color developing ageng for heat-sensitive copying paper, in high yield, without producing by-products, by reacting a stable and easily producible 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alkyl ether with an alkylbenzene.
CONSTITUTION: A polynuclear polyphenol compound of formula III (R1 is lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are 1W8C alkyl; R is lower alkyl; n is 3 or 4), e.g. 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)benzene, is prepared by reacting a 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alkyl ether of formula I (e.g. 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4- hydroxybenzyl methyl ether) with an alkyl benzene of formula II (e.g. 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene) in the presence of an acidic catalyst (e.g. sulfuric acid).
