Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce forces applied to supporting shafts by arranging manufacturing devices at two upper and lower stages and by making the diameter of one lower forming roll less than that of the other.
CONSTITUTION: A molten metal is spoutted out of the tip of nozzle 9 to the forming part of cooling forming rolls 5 and 6 at the upper stage and suddenly cooled and rolled into amorphous metallic ribbon 13, which is sent to lower rolls. Meanwhile, a molten metal sent to nozzle 10 is spoutted to lower rolls 17 and 18 at the lower stage and made into amorphous metallic ribbon 14. Since rolls 17 and 18 differ in roll diameter and use large-diameter roll 17 and small-diameter roll 18, the pressure receiving area of every ribbon decreased in comparison with that when both the rolls are equal in diameter to the large-diameter roll 17 and even reducing forces applied to cooling forming rolls 17 and 18 results in the same effect with that when a large force is applied to the large-diameter roll.
