Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain wide amorphous metal ribbons having a good surface roughness, by supplying previously formed amorphous metal ribbons and a molten metal to the forming section of quenched forming roll, so that the edge parts are allowed to be contacted with each other to form one body. CONSTITUTION:Amorphous metal ribbon 18 is formed by the double roll process in such a way that the molten metal of high permeability material, etc., is sent to nozzle 15 and then quenched and rolled at forming section 9 of quenched forming rolls 11 and 12 after it is jetted into the forming section. The formed metal ribbon is sent to the forming section of lower quenched forming rolls 13 and 14. On the other hand, the molten metal sent to nozzle 16 is jetted into forming section 10 of quench forming rolls 13 and 14 through the tip of nozzle 16 and quenched and rolled to form amorphous metal ribbon 19. At this time, edges 17 of amorphous metal ribbons 18 and 19 are arranged so that both edges are allowed to be contacted with each other, and they are jointed and rolled. By this method, a wide amorphous metal ribbon is obtained continuously. The jointed part of the wide metal ribbon thus obtained becomes about 3mu thicker than the other part, but this does not give any characteristic problems.
