Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent generation of negative pressure in the fluid pressure chamber of a shock absorber and obtain desired attenuation characteristics by providing the by-pass passage in the vortex valve with a check valve which passes only flow in the direction in which no attenuation force is generated. CONSTITUTION:During the expansion stroke of a piston 4, a vortex valve 5A moves upwards and consequently a plate 10, which receives fluid pressure as a check valve, is forced to contact to the upper bottom surface 6a of a valve body 6, blocking up by-pass passage 9 which allow a vortex flow chamber 7 and a fluid pressure chamber R2 to communicate with each other. Conversely, during the contraction stroke of the piston 4, the vortex valve 5A moves downwards. Consequently, the greater part of the fluid in a fluid pressure chamber R1 flows from the vortex flow chamber 7 into the by-pass passages 9 and enters the fluid pressure chamber R2, pushing up the plates 10. Thereby, the effect of resistance due to passages 8b is practically removed, so that generation of the negative pressure in the fluid pressure chamber R2 can be prevented.
