Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield economically and advantageously in a simple step, by chlorinating p-nitrophenol in a specific solvent.
CONSTITUTION: p-Nitrophenol is dissolved in a solvent of chloroform, methylene chloride or a mixture thereof, and then reacted with a chlorinating agent, e.g. chlorine gas or thionyl chloride at 10°C to the refluxing temperature, preferably at about room temperature, for 1W3hr to give the titled compound.
EFFECT: Inexpensive raw materials without requiring many complicated steps.
