Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a clear signal image by correcting variance among respective infrared-ray detecting elements by storing a memory with inverse signals for characteristic difference compensation from respective elements and by extracting effective signals by mixing the inverse signals with an image pickup signal. CONSTITUTION:Infrared-ray detecting elements D1-Dn are provided and inverse signals, obtained by subtracting signals with level differences corresponding to intrinsic characteristics of detecting elements D1-Dn from a prescribed reference value, are previsouly stored in memory M. Then, image pickup signals, obtained by photoelectric conversion, from elements D1-Dn and reverse signals from memory M are stored in temporary signals storage area 6 and mixed and part of the synthetic signal is supplied to charge transfer device 3 again via transfer gate TG and outputted successively. Therefore, a difference in signal level due to variance in characteristics among elements can be corrected and a clear signal image can be obtained.
