Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the steady signal with no effect of the dark current and the like by extracting from the solid state pickup substance the output signals corresponding to the first and second reference level setting parts, forming the necessary correction signal waveform with use of the output signals and then correcting the solid state pickup output via the corrected waveform.
CONSTITUTION: The solid state pickup substance contains the following unit: solid state pickup substance which possesses the first charge transfer element to transfer the signal charge picked up and stored in a 2-dimensional way in the vertical scanning direction and the second charge transfer element to transfer the transferred signal charge in the horizontal scanning direction; first reference level setting part 21-1 provided at the first end of the first charge transfer element; and second reference level setting part 21-2 provided at the second end of the first charge transfer element, which is distant from part 21-1. Then the output signals corresponding to the first and second reference level setting parts are extracted through the above mentioned solid state pickup substance, and the fixed correction signal is applied to waveform generator circuit 20 via the extracted output signal. With the correction waveform thus obtained, the solid state pickup output is corrected. Thus, the steady signal can be obtained with no effect of the dark current and the like
