Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform penetration in butt welding of an object material using pulse current in atmosphere of inert gas by reducing the current value stepwise from the beginning of welding.
CONSTITUTION: Under a state where a normally open contact LRX is not closed, base current Cb is fed for a fixed time between the materials to be welded. When the normally open contact LRX is closed, a relay LR2 is closed through normally closed contacts LR3, LR4, and at the same time, a timer TM is closed. Then, a welding pulse current signal is outputted from a current setting device, and pulse current Cp1 flows between the welding torch and material to be welded. When a timer TM2 is closed and the relay LR3 is also closed, the relay LR2 is relased and pulse current Cp2 is made to flow. After welding is made by pulse current Cp3 in the same manner, a limit switch LS1 works to release the relay LR4 and welding is completed.
