Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled pigment which gives molded articles excellent physical properties, whiteness and surface gloss with no flash when the pigment is blended with plastics, etc. by a method wherein a bisphenol A type epoxy resin is adsorbed on the surface of CaCO3 particle.
CONSTITUTION: (ii) Bisphenol A (or a derivative) and (iii) an alkali hydroxide (e.g. NaOH) are added to a suspension of CaCO3 to obtain a mixed suspension (A). (iv) An epihalohydrin (e.g. epichlorohydrin) is added to the suspension A. The mixt. is heated at a temp. of not lower than 60°C to produce a bisphenol A type epoxy resin. Simultaneously, the produced bisphenol A type epoxy resin is uniformly adsorbed on the surface of CaCO3 particle. The product is dehydrated, dried and classified by a conventional method to obtain the desired CaCO3 pigment contg. adsorbed resin. The mole ratio of (iv) to (ii) is pref. 1.3W1.8.
USE: Pigment for rubber, paints, inks, papers and plastics.
