Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a CaCO3 filler which is blended with a resin to produce a compsn. having excellent gloss, whiteness and other characteristics, by a method wherein a salt of a copolymer of maleic acid and α-olefin or alkyl vinyl ether is adsorbed by CaCO3.
CONSTITUTION: Maleic acid is copolymerized with a compd. of the formula (wherein R1 is H, CH3; R2 is 2W30C alkyl or alkoxy) by conventional solution polymn. The copolymer is neutralized with an aq. soln. of an alkali metal hydroxide or an aq. ammonia to obtain a salt (A) of the copolymer. Then 0.01W10.0pts.wt. of the salt (A) is mixed with a suspension of 100pts.wt. of CaCO3. The mixt. is dehydrated, dried, crushed classified and pulverized by a conventional method to obtain the desired CaCO3 filler contg. adsorbed salt (A).
USE: A filler for rubbers, paints and papers.
