Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively utilize incident light, and make display bright and easy to see by forming 3 layers, in order of a light reflection film, an insulation film and a lower plate electrode, on the liquid crystal side surface of a lower substrate in a guest-host liquid crystal display element.
CONSTITUTION: A reflection film 6 of Al film or the like is formed over the entire surface on the lower substrate 1b of a liquid crystal display device. Next, an insulation film 7 of SiO2 film or the like is formed on the film 6, and further, a lower electrode 3b is formed on the film 7. The reflection film 6 is provided only on the lighting parts 9 of the upper electrode 3a and the lower electrode 3b. As a result, the external rays A, B, C having entered are transmitted through the insulation film 7 and are immediately relfected, unlike the case in which a reflection plate is attached on the outside surface of the substrate 1b in the prior art; therefore, they are hardly absorbed by the dyes of the liquid crystal layer and are effectively utilized, and this makes the display surface brighter. It is acceptable as well to omit the reflection film 6 by forming the electrode 3b with Al etc. to serve both as the electrode 3b and the reflection film 6.
