Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve winding characteristics to drums and sheaves by using a flexible type optical cable between a main cable and a submarine optical repeater and making the permissible radius of curvature of the connected part thereof smaller than the permissible radius of curvature of the main cable.
CONSTITUTION: A submarine optical cable 2 is connected by a submarine optical repeater 1, and a fiexible type optical cable 3 is led to this repeater 1 via a connected part 4. Additionally, the cable 3 is formed to the same diameter as that of the cable 2, and a corrugated pipe 3 having a waved section is disposed to the inner side of the sheath 3a of the PE covering. Optical fibers 2e are inserted in the inner side of this corrugated pipe 3b. Hence, even if the repeater 1 is of a rigid type having no universal joint part and the cable at the repeater end part bends considerably when it is wound on a drum or sheave, the assurance of the safety of the cable is made possible.
