Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out the mounting of the diaphragm easily and certainly by a method wherein the diaphragm is provided in a long meandering manner between a surface of a cathode finger and an anode and clipped and fixed by a diaphragm fixing apparatus. CONSTITUTION:Plural fingers 2 for forming a cathod 4 is provided to a cathode box 1 and diaphragm attaching frames 3, 3' are provided to an upper and a lower surfaces thereof. The continuous sheet like diaphragm 6 is adhered or welded to the attaching frames 3, 3' and fixed thereto. When mechanical means are used, a peripheral flange part of the diaphragm 6 is inserted between the attaching frames 3, 3' and a press plate 8 and clipped under pressure and fixed to side surfaces of the fingers and both end portions through a packing 7 by a clip 10. An anode 19 is vertically provided between fingers 2 from a bottom plate 22. Moreover, an opened end of the cathode box 1 and is closed by a side plate 14 as well as the diaphragm 6 is attached to a flange 5 by a screw to be integrated therewith. Thereby, the diaphragm 6 is easily provided along the surfaces of the fingers 2 in a long meandering manner as well as a distance between both electrodes is shortened to make it possible to maintain current efficiency well.
