Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the electrolytic voltage by a method wherein a detachable flexible porous metal net, substantially, a liquid permeable and hydrogen unpermeable porous film, and a cation exchange membrane are placed one upon another on a cathode surface and closely adhered by an expansible anode. CONSTITUTION:A lead rod 2 is attached to a frame 1 of an anode chamber of a vertical type electrolytic tank using a cation exchange membrane and a rib 3 is welded to the lead rod 2. The rib has an electric conductor and a spring so as to form an expansible anode plate 4. On the other hand, the lead rod 6 is attached to a cathode frame and a bar 7 is welded thereto as well as a rib 8 is welded to said bar 7. A cathode plate 10 comprising a metal net is placed on the rib 8 and a low hydrogen permeable porous metal net 11 is placed thereon and, moreover, a porous film 12 is placed thereon. The porous film and the cation exchange membrane are layered and sealed by a frame portion of the electrolytic tank. The seal portion of the porous film is subjected to the water-proofing treatment and sandwiched by a packing 14 of the anode chamber and a packing 15 of the cathode chamber.
