CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of tri-iron tetroxide fine powder, to an aqueous ferrous salt soln. is added a salt similar to a salt formed by the neutralization of a ferrous salt and a pH adjusting alkali, and air is blown at 60W90°C and 6.5W 8.0pH. The amount of the salt added beforehand is equal to or more than the amount of the salt formed by the neutralization. The ferrous salt is ferrous sulfate and is used as an about 10W30wt% aqueous soln., and the alkali is an about 10W30wt% aqueous ammonia soln. The salt added beforehand is ammonium sulfate. Air is blown at about 0.5W3.0l/min rate to 1l of the reactive soln., and oxidation is completed in about 2W8hr. Thus, spherical black iron oxide pigment with uniform grain size and high dispersibility is obtd. This pigment gives a clear color tone.
