Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a head with a narrow and uniform gap width, by causing the gap block, to which the magnetic thin film caused to adhere to the substrate surface is opposite through the gap insulating layer, and the block forming the conductor coil part to adhere to each other. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic thin film 2 is caused to adhere to substrate 1 by glass, and substrates 1 are caused to ahere to each other so that thin films 2 may be opposite to each other via about 1mum thick gap insulating layer 3, thereby obtaining a block. This block is cut in the direction vertical to the adhesion face, and a groove is provided in gap part 3 for the purpose of reducing gap loss. Meanwhile, magnetic layer 2 is provided on contact layer 6 of substrate 1 and is covered with insulating layer 5, and conductor coil 4 is provided on layer 5 and is covered with layer 5 again. After that layer 5 at the top part of layer 2 is removed to form a coil block. This gap block and the coil block are bound by glass adhesion to produce a horizontal thin film magnetic head.
