Abstract

PURPOSE:To heat and temper the entire part of a shaft body to a uniform temp. by disposing impeders in the spaces between a heating coil and the small mass bulged part at the time of tempering a shaft body having plural bulged parts of different masses centering at the shaft through induction heating. CONSTITUTION:A metal-made multistage shaft body W having a large mass part W1, a middle mass part W2 and a small mass part W3 is heated by induction electric power by an induction heating coil 2, and is thereby tempered. In this case, an impeder 4a is disposed between the middle mass part W2 and the coil 2, an impeder 4a between the small mass part W2 and the coil, 2 and impeders 4b, 4c are disposed between the small mass part W3 and the coil 2 according to the size thereof. The magnetic fluxes generated when power is supplied to the coil 2 are dispersed to each impeder and the magnetic fluxes of the same density flow to the mass parts W1, W2, W3; therefore, the respective mass parts are heated to a uniform temp. and the entire part of the shaft body W is uniformly tempered.
