Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect easily the properties of the paper leaf by a method wherein the light from two kinds of light sources is applied on one surface of the paper leaf and on the other surface thereof on the opposite side respectively and the reflected light and the transmitted light are transduced photoelectrically by one sensor. CONSTITUTION:When the paper leaf P is carried in the direction shown by an arrow and enters a light-receiving passage, a photoelectric signal which is outputted from the line sensor 4 and scanned in the direction of carriage and in the perpendicular direction is obtained. The time of generation of the waveform of the signal is measured and the continuance of a number of scanning of same generation time is detected, whereby the size of the paper leaf P is measured. Furthermore, scribbling on the paper leaf P, holes and the breakage and folding of the edge thereof, etc. can be detected from the shape of the waveform of the scanning signal.
