Abstract

PURPOSE: To determine the exact length of the paper leaf by a method wherein the counts of the transit period of the front and rear edges of the paper leaf are detected by four phototransmission-type detectors arranged in parallel and perpendicularly to the direction of carriage of the paper leaf and at somewhat shorter intervals than the sizes thereof and are processed by a comprehensive determination circuit and thereby the tilt and corner fold of the paper leaf are checked up.
CONSTITUTION: Light sources 1W4 and photoelectric elements 1'W4' are arranged perpendicularly and in parallel to the direction of carriage of the paper leaf P shown by an arrow and at some-what smaller intervals than the sizes of P. The output of the photoelectric elenent 1'W4' is inputted to counters 17W20 through amplifiers 5W8, detecting circuits 9W12 and logical sum circuits 13W16, respectively. When the tip of P reaches the photoelectric element 3', for instance, the counters 18 and 19 start counting, and when the tip of P reaches 4', the counter 18 stops counting, while the counter 20 starts counting. When the rear edge of P passes 1', for instance, the counter 17 starts counting, while the counter 19 stops. When the rear edge of P passes 2', the counters 17 and 20 stop. Receiving count signals AWD from these counters, the comprehensive determination circuit 21 checks up the tilt and corner fold of P and determines the exact length thereof.
