Abstract

PURPOSE: To fix a toner image without fixing defect even in the low-temperature environment, by controlling energy consumption so that energy on the surface of the fixing roller is within the range of a desired value.
CONSTITUTION: Section (a) indicates the stand-by state, and section (b) indicates lowering of the temperature of the roller surface dependent upon the continuous paper supply in the low-temperature environment. In section (c), when the temperature of the roller surface reaches 11 and holding energy becomes outside a desired range, intermittent copying of heating for time A and paper supply for time B is repeated as shown by solid line 1; and when the temperature of the roller surface is raised to reach 11, this intermittent copying is terminated. If the surface temperature at paper supply end time t1 is equal to or lower than that at intermittent copying operation start time t1, the proportion between the stop time and the paper supply time is changed to make the stop time longer as shown by dotted line 2. Thus, the toner image is fixed without fixing defect even in the low-temperature environment.
