Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain high-quality potassium tetracyanoaurate (III) in simple operation, by extracting a reaction product between an aqueous solution of gold (III) chloride and potassium cyanide with an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Gold (III) chloride or purity 99% or higher is dissolved in pure water to give an aqueous solution of the gold chloride in a concentration of about 100W300g/l, and potassium cyanide is then added and reacted with the solution under agitation. The potassium cyanide preferably has as high a purity as possible (purity of 95% or higher). After the reaction, the solution is heated and concentrated until a film begins to form on the surface of the solution, and cooled to crystallize the reaction product, which is then filtered. The resultant reaction product is brought into contact with an organic solvent to extract potassium tetracyanoaurate (III) in the organic solvent. The extracted potassium tetracyanoaurate (III) is then separated from potassium chloride by the filtration or decantation.
