Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the copying of always constant image quality by performing the measurement of the surface potential of a photoreceptor and the controlling of a high-voltage power source for charging prior to each copying.
CONSTITUTION: A photoreceptor surface potential sensor 8 is provided between a charging electrode 2 provided near a drumlike photoreceptor 4 and the exposed part 6 of the photoreceptor 4. At the copying of the 1st sheet, and before an optical system moves after switching on of a start switch, the surface potential of the photoreceptor is measured and the high-voltage power source for charging is controlled based on the measured potential, whereby the surface potential of the photoreceptor is maintained at a predetermined value during the forward moving period of the optical system. On the other hand, for the 2nd and subsequent sheets in the case of continuous copying, the surface potential of the photoreceptor is measured during the moving period of the optical system in copying just before the same and based on the measured potential the power source for charging is controlled prior to the next movement of the optical system, whereby the surface potential of the photoreceptor is maintained at a predetermined value during the next forward moving period of the optical system.
