Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably produce directly heat-treated wire materials of uniform quality distributions in the width direction by controlling the total supply rates of cooling fluid while changing the ratios of the supply rates of cooling fluid to respective fluid discharge groups so that the quality distributions in the width direction of wire material rings are made uniform. CONSTITUTION:Hot-rolled steel wire materials are cooled to desired temp. by a water cooling device 1, after which they are sent to coiling machines by pinch rolls 2, and are formed to wire material rings 5 of an eccentric ring shape by the laying heads 3 thereof. These are then placed on the next roller conveyor 6. While the rings 5 are placed on the conveyor 6 and are being transferred, they are cooled by the blast from a plurality of blast discharge ports 7 disposed in proximity to both side parts of the conveyor 6. At this time, the discharge ports 7 are divided to the 7a-1, 7b-1 group aiming the position of the distance D2 from the edge part of the rings 5 on the conveyor 6 and the 7a-2, 7b-2 group aiming the position of the distance D1 from the edge part of the rings 5. The total cooling fluid supply rate is controlled while the ratios of fluid supply rates to both groups are being properly changed.
