Abstract

PURPOSE:To save annealing and leveling process and simplify production process in producing a shadow mask for the cathode-ray tube of color televisions, by using steel properly added with Al as a blank material in place of conventional low carbon rimmed steel and adjusting the process for production of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION:The steel material having the undermentioned composition is used for the material of a shadow mask used for the cathode-ray tube of color televisions. Namely, a steel plate contg. <=0.10% C, 0.10-0.50% Mn and 0.01-0.10% sol. Al is subjected to hot rolling, cold rolling and intermediate annealing for more than once to be made into an intermediate plate of 2mm. thickness. Next, it is subjected to cold finish rolling at >=30% draft to make plate thickness 0.15mm., thence the plate is wound to a coil. This coil is subjected to final annealing at temperatures above the crystallization temp. and <=620 deg.C, after which skin-pass rolling of 0.3-2.0% draft is applied. The thin steel strip for shadow mask produced in this way is pierced by etching, after which it is blackened without requiring annealing and leveling process and this strip is usable for cathode-ray tubes.
