Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 2-substituted-hydroxycyclopentenone expressed by formula I [R is 1W10C alkyl except pentyl group, 2W10C alkenyl except 2-pentenyl group, 2W10C alkynyl except 2-pentynyl group or 7W8C aralkyl; group -OH is in the 3- or 4- position, and when in the 4- position, C(4)-C(5) bond is a single bond and C(2)=C(3) bond is a double bond, and when in the 3- position, C(2)-C(3) bond is a single bond and C(4)=C(5) bond is a double bond].
EXAMPLE: 2-Methyl-3-hydroxy-4-cyclopenten-1-one.
USE: A synthetic intermediate of a medicine, e.g. prostaglandin, an insecticide, e.g. pyrethroid, or a perfume, and a base for the preparation of a perfume due to its own odor.
PROCESS: A 2-substituted-3-hydroxy-4-cyclopenten-1-one expressed by formula II is isomerized in the presence of a basic isomerizing agent, to give the compound expressed by formula I.
