Abstract

A drive shaft (12) and a first impeller (22) have face-to-face mounting surfaces (28, 18) spaced by shims (38). A second impeller (30) has a hub (34) with a bore (36) the internal profile of which is substantially the same as that defined by the total cross-section of the shaft (12) and the mounting member (24) bearing the mounting surface (28), with a transverse dimension of the bore (36) being less than that of the shaft end (14) and the mounting member (24) together. At least one of the impellers (22, 30) has a radial agitator blade (26, 32). Preferably, the shaft (12) and impellers (22, 30) are coated with a corrosion-resistant material, such as glass.
