Abstract

A hub (45) of plastics material is secured to a shaft or the like by means of inwardly-protruding, shaft- contacting, metallic ridges (37) provided in the hub bore (46), the metallic ridges being part of claws (43) embedded in the hub. The claws may be integrally formed from a steel disc (12), which may be force-fitted into the face of the hub. The hub may form part of a rotary member such as an axial fan or propeller. In use, the ridges may cut into the shaft surface, forming splines.
