Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a usable state with short time charging work when a battery is required for prompt use simultaneously prevent the storage battery from being deteriorated and increase its life, by charging the battery at a large current rate from the beginning of its charge to the time for the battery with at most half its proper capacity thereafter charging the battery at a small current rate. CONSTITUTION:A commerical power source is input to a charging power circuit 1, here stepped down its voltage and rectified to flow a charging current in a storage battery 4, and between these lines a charging current control circuit 2 is connected. Said charging current control circuit 2 feeds the charging current from the charging power circuit 1 to the storage battery 4 at a large current of not less than two-hour rate from the beginning of its charge till the time (till time X) for the storage battery 4 with at most 50% its proper capacity, thereafter from the time X at a small current of not more than five-hour rate. For instance, a counter circuit 5, that counts time from the beginning of charge to the time X or Y, feeds a respective detection signal to the charging current control circuit 2 at the time X and the time Y, performing the control operation of the charging current as described in the above.
