Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Acrylic or methacrylic ester of the formula (R1, R2 are H, methyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-(tetrahydro-2'-furanyl)methoxyethyl acrylate.
USE: Odorless reactive diluent of acrylurehtane-modified polyester coating that gives coating films with high heat resistance, water resistance, curing rate and adhesion to flexible polyvinyl chloride. Further, the compound itself is photocured in the presence of a photosensitizer to form coating films.
PREPARATION: One mole ethylene oxide adduct to 2-hydroxymethyltetrahydrofuran or one mole propylne oxide adduct is made to react with acrylic or methacrylic acid or its lower ester in the presence of an esterification catalyst to give the compound of the formula.
