Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the dispersing and filling properties of the magnetic powder as well as the smoothness, heat resistance and durability of the magnetic layer each, by using a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, the specific copolymerized polyester resin and the urethane prepolymer as the binder of the magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recording medium uses the vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a copolymerized polyester resin containing a metallic sulphonate group and a urethane prepolymer as the binder components of the magnetic layer. The vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer uses VYHH, VAGH, VMCH and the like. The polyester is obtained by copolymerization of 5-sodium sulfo-isophthalate into a polyester; and the urethane prepolymer is the straight chain type low molecular weight urethane resin which has a free isocyanate group at the both terminals. Such magnetic recording excels in the chroma output, video S/N and low- temperature stiffness property in comparison with the conventional video tape.
