PURPOSE:To control the lowering of luminous flux to a minimum as well as reduce the consumption of lamp power by confining a mixed rare gas containing mercury and a specific amount of krypton in a tube of a specific diameter with a specific charging pressure. CONSTITUTION:A mixed rare gas, consisting of mercury and a charging gas containing 40-60vol% krypton, e.g., krypton-argon, krypton-neon, or krypton-argon- neon, is confined into a 110W rapid start type straight tube fluorescent lamp, 38mm. in diameter and approx. 2,400mm. in length, with a charging gas pressure of 1.5- 2.5 torr. Thus, the lowering of luminous flux due to saved power can be controlled to a minimum, and therefore a power-saving type lamp of power saving rate of 5% or more can be obtained.
