Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve detection sensitivity when a pit water volume is none or negligible by bending a parallel beam in a direction of an incident window by means of a prism in the neighborhood of an irradiation window where a parallel beam is projected. CONSTITUTION:An irradiation window 2 and an incident window 5 are arranged opposed to each other with their beam axes deviated at an upper head 1 and a lower head 4. A prism 11 is installed on the irradiation window 2 and a body to be measured 7 is inserted in a clearance between the upper and lower heads. Under this constitution, a parallel beam becomes beams 12, 13 by means of a prism 11 and these beams are bent in a direction of an incident window 5. In almost all the cases, an irradiated beam proceeding straight is not absorbed in the surface 6 or does not proceed in an opposite direction to the window 5. As a result, the quantity of beams which is inputted to a detector increases. This phenomenon is conspicuous when the pit water volume is none or negligible. Thus, it is possible to enhance a detection sensitivity when the pit water volume is none or is negligible.
