Abstract

PURPOSE:To ignite an internal combustion engine at the optimum ignition timing by a method wherein ignition timing characteristics are previously memorized as maps by each cylinder or cylinder group, expecting the variation of revolution during one revolution of a crank shaft, and ignition timing is calculated on the basis of the memory and controlled. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 7 receives detecting signals from a revolution angle sensor 1, an intake pressure sensor 2, a water temperature sensor 3, an atmospheric pressure sensor 4, an intake temperature sensor 5 and a knocking sensor 6, calculates ignition timing and supplies an igniter 8 with ignition timing signals. The microcomputer 7 previously memorizes ignition timing characteristics expecting the variation of revolution during one revolution of a crank shaft by each cylinder or cylinder group to its internal memory as maps, discriminates cylinder ignited next time, and computes ignition timing on the basis of the ignition timing characteristics mapped in response to the cylinder.
