Abstract

PURPOSE:To sufficiently achieve the power performance and the fuel consumption performance of an engine by detecting the knocking occurrence cylinder and controlling the ignition timing for each cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder discriminator 7 is associated in a distributor 62, and generates a signal for each cycle of a crankshaft. Memories 21, 22, 23, 24 store contents alpha for the respective cylinders, and the ignition timings of the respective cylinders are controlled by varying the value of the alpha. A cylinder discriminating memory 25 varies its content in accordance with the signal of the discriminator 7 and the signal of a cranking angle sensor 6, thereby discriminating the number of the cylinder by referring the content. When no knocking occurs, the contents alpha of the respective memories 21-24 are reduced, while when the knocking occurs, the contents alpha are increased in response to the output level of a knocking level discriminator 3.
