Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the forward bias for the diode when the load current becomes excessive by connecting the amplifying transistor and the current detection resistance by the diode, thus avoiding the voltage drop due to the current detection resistance.
CONSTITUTION: Diode 9 is inserted between the emitter of amplifying transistor 8 and the joint of resistances 5 and 6. As a result, the collector current of control transistor 1 increases to compensate the voltage drop in case when the load of output terminal 11 lowers down extraordinarily with the overcurrent flowing to terminal 11. At the same time, the collector current of control transistor 8 increases, and thus the voltage increases across resistance 7. When this voltage becomes higher than the voltage across resistance 6, the forward bias is given to diode 9 with the conduction secured for diode 9. Then differential amplifier 2 performs the detection as if the DC output voltage increased, and then functions to reduce the increased voltage. As a result, the collector current is decreased for both transistors 8 and 1, and both-end voltage of resistance 7 functions to become lower than both-end voltage of resistance 6 to become steady with a good balance.
