Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a remedy for gastric ulcer industrially, and advantageously by reacting 1-benzyl-3-aminopiperidine with a reactive derivative of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid.
CONSTITUTION: 1-Benzyl-3-aminopiperidine is reacted with a reactive derivative of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid in the presence orf absence of a catalyst, e.g. sodium hydrogencarbonate or pyridine, and if necessary in a solvent, e.g. water or dimethylformamide, to give 1-benzyl-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzamido)piperidine, which is then catalytically reduced, preferably in the presence of palladium carbon, at ordinary temperatures and pressures to afford the aimed compound. The presence of a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol or ethanol, and a small amount of water further improves the yield of the product.
