Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically adjust elongation of a belt by providing a belt tensioning device at the loosening side of drive pulleys in head, tail and intermediate portions and tensioning the tensioning device by wire through a tension detecting means.
CONSTITUTION: When a belt conveyer A is activated by the respective drive pulleys 9, tension of the belt at the loosening side of these pulleys 9 is reduced. When this tension is reduced to an allowable value or less while being detected by a detector 7, a winches 5 are operated to tension the belt to a set tension value of belt in which the winches 5 are stopped. When the speed of the conveyer belt (a) reaches a set speed, acceleration power disappears to that elongation of the belt also disappears and the respective winches 5 are stopped. At this point one winch 5 is left as it is and the remaining winch 5 is loosened and stopped at a predetermined position. Thereafter, by the remaining winch 5 is automatically adjusted the tension of the belt.
