Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover the titled fluorescent substance without degrading the red emission purity, by treating a mixture of a rare earth element oxysulfide fluorescent substance with a sulfide fluorescent substance, e.g. zinc sulfide, with aqueous hydrogen peroxide of specific concentration in a specific amount.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a rare earth element oxysulfide fluorescent substance, e.g. ytrrium oxysulfide activated with europium, with a sulfide fluorescent substance, e.g. zinc sulfide and/or zinc cadmium sulfide, is treated with aqueous hydrogen peroxide containing 4 gram-mols or more hydrogen peroxide and in a concentration of 0.5wt% or less to dissolve the sulfide fluorescent substance in the mixture selectively. The undissolved rare earth element oxysulfide fluorescent substance is separated to recover the titled fluorescent substance.
